Department of fisheries is mainly focusing on promoting the environmental fishing methods. Accordingly it is expected to provide technical support for the fishermen to upgrade their boats and gears enabling them to transfer to more sustainable methods of harvesting. On the other hand it is expected to uplift the socio economic aspects of the fisher folk though community development programmes. Details of such programmes is given under this section.
